Successful commissioning of Romania’s largest kiln line at Holcim’s Campulung plant – cement for a rapidly growing market
Holcim Romania has just successfully commissioned a new kiln line in the cement plant of Campulung. This brings an additional third of cement production capacity to this Group company that operates in a very dynamic, fast growing construction materials market. To achieve this, the Group invested EUR 120 million.
The new facility has a cement production capacity of around 2 million tonnes per annum. This makes it the country’s biggest kiln and reinforces Holcim's competitiveness in Romania. It replaces three outdated smaller production units. The best available technology was used for the construction of the kiln and the plant complies with the toughest environmental regulations. The Campulung plant with a workforce of 570 is situated in central Romania, about 120 kilometers northwest of Bucharest.
In Romania, one of the sectors seeing the highest growth rates is the Construction industry. Since 1998, cement consumption has risen from well below 4 million tonnes to more than 10 million tonnes annually. Experts take the view that the construction industry will continue to show strong growth in the years to come. The increased capacity of the Campulung plant enables Holcim Romania to deliver first class cement products to customers as well as to provide tailor-made services.
Holcim Romania owns 2 cement plants, one terminal with grinding facilities, 16 ready-mix concrete plants and operates 6 pits for sand and gravel and 1 quarry for crushed stone. The company with its headquarters in Bucharest employs some 1,400 people.
Holcim is one of the world's leading suppliers of cement and aggregates (crushed stone, gravel and sand) as well as further activities such as ready-mix concrete and asphalt including services. The Group holds majority and minority interests in more than 70 countries on all continents.
